What You'll Need

Planning a Wedding

Choose a Date, Time and Location

If you're planning a large celebration or have specific dates or venues in mind start your phone calls early!  Many wedding venues easily book 6 months or more in advance, with prime season booking can be out over a year.

For smaller gatherings, private ceremonies, or simple signings there are many public spaces that can provide the perfect space in a week or even a day's notice.  Need help?  Just ask!

Legal Marriage

Marriage License

You'll need to decide where you're getting married and then apply for your marriage license.  Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana have slightly different requirements and fees so be sure to finalize your plan before you apply.

If you'd like some guidance, I have cheat sheets available when you're ready.

Wedding Toast

Witnesses and Rings

For a ceremony of short notice, a safe plan is to have at least two available witnesses.  Having two witnesses 18 or older is a legal requirement in Kentucky and Ohio.  If you're not sure how timely one may be, call a third!

New to the area or just stopping through?  We have legal friends we can bring for a small fee, just mention it in your inquiry.

Rings are not a legal requirement, but if a ring exchange is part of your ceremony double and triple check you've got them!   There are many jewelry stores in the area that have a stock selection of simple bands in many sizes if time is of the essence.  Even stores like the "red store" now carry silicone bands in their jewelry departments if you're in a pinch.
